Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mahbubul Alam has been elected president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry unopposed for terms 2023-24 and 2024-25.
A senior vice-president and six vice-presidents of the apex trade body have also been elected unopposed as there were no other candidates for the posts.
The FBCCI election board on Wednesday announced the names of the office bearers of the trade body.
In the electoral process, 46 elected directors (23 from chamber group and 23 from association group) along with 34 nominated directors chose the president of the country’s apex trade body for the next two years’ tenure.
On July 31, a total of 49 candidates contested for the posts of 23 directors for the association group under the two panels. There were three independent candidates for Fifteen candidates from the Sammilito Byaboshayi Parishad and eight from the Byaboshayi Oikko Parishad were elected directors of the board for the association group.
The 23 directors from the chamber group were elected without any contests.
The newly elected president Mahbubul Alam was one of the nominated directors of the board from Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Md Amin Helaly, proprietor of Dosdisha Printers, also an elected director of the board for the association group, was elected senior vice-president of FBCCI.
The six vice-presidents are Khairul Huda Chopol, Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarker and Joshoda Jibon Deb Nath from the chamber group and Shomi Kaiser, Rashadul Hosasin Chowdhury and Md Munir Hossain from the association group.
