A Rohingya woman and her daughter were killed in a landslide on the foot of a hillock in Balukhali Rohingya camp -9 under Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar Monday late afternoon.
The deceased are Jannat Ara, 28, wife of Anwar Islam, and their two-year old daughter Mahim Akhter.
Armed Police Battalion – 8 commander Md Amir Zafar in Ukhiya said that they, on information, rushed to the spot and a team of fire service personnel and local Rohingya community people recovered the bodies under the mud.
He said that they informed the matter to the local police station to take appropriate legal steps.
The accident occurred when a big chunk of mud fell on their shelter from the top of the hillock, local Rohingya people said.
A good number of Rohingya shelters were made by cutting trees and bushes on the hillock and the mud of the hillock became loose due to rain for the past few days, they said.
