At least three restaurant workers were killed and several others injured in a gas cylinder blast on Saturday evening at ‘Ghorowa Hotel and Restaurant’ at Ramer Kanda in Keraniganj in Dhaka.
Three other shops were also burnt in the incident as the fire broke out from the restaurant.
The victims are Ghorowa restaurant workers – Mintu, Elias and Shah Alam.
Keraniganj model police station officer-in-charge Sohrab AL Hossain said that the incident took place at about 7:20pm.
‘We have sent victims body to the Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital for autopsy. It is now difficult to say how many people have been injured in the incident,’ the OC said, adding that several people were injured as many jumped to save their lives.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Shahjahan Sikder said that they heard the news at about 7:30pm and two units of firefighters reached the spot at about 7:45pm.
‘We have recovered three severe burnt bodies and handed over them to police. Two units have doused the fire, and we did not have to send additional units,’ he said.
