On 1 February, the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route will witness the launch of two new intercity trains, the Saikat Express and the Prabal Express.
The announcement followed a directive from Bangladesh Railways, which called for the allocation of essential resources such as locomotives, coaches, and personnel. Both trains will feature a combined total of 743 seats, designed to serve a significant number of passengers, including regular commuters and tourists.
The Saikat Express is set to leave Chattogram at 6:15 AM, arriving in Cox’s Bazar by 9:55 AM. The Prabal Express will depart Chattogram later in the day at 3:10 PM, with an expected arrival in Cox’s Bazar at 7:00 PM. For the return journey, the Prabal Express will leave Cox’s Bazar at 10:35 AM, reaching Chattogram at 2:25 PM. Meanwhile, the Saikat Express will depart from Cox’s Bazar at 8:15 PM, arriving back in Chattogram at 11:50 PM.
Both trains will make multiple stops along their routes. The Saikat Express will halt at Sholoshahar, Janalihat, Patiya, Dohazari, Satkania, Chakaria, Dulahazara, and Ramu. The Prabal Express will stop at ten stations, including Sholoshahar, Gomdandi, Patiya, Dohazari, Satkania, Lohagara, Chakaria, Dulahazara, Islamabad, and Ramu.
These trains will operate six days a week, with Monday designated as their day off. According to ABM Kamruzzaman, the divisional railway manager of Chattogram, these intercity trains will provide first-class amenities, making them an attractive option for both tourists heading to Cox’s Bazar and daily commuters between the two cities.
Currently, a special train is running on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route, but these new services are anticipated to enhance travel options for passengers even further.
