The administration of Dhaka University on Monday decided to separate the seven government colleges from their affiliation with the university.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting between the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University and the principals of the affiliated government colleges on Monday in the vice-chancellor’s meeting room.
Following the meeting, the Public Relations Office of Dhaka University issued a press release detailing the discussion.
The university administration has already expressed sincere regret over the unfortunate incidents related to the affiliated colleges and has urged the students of both Dhaka University and the affiliated colleges to maintain patience, harmony, and amicable relationships. Says the press release.
During the meeting, the key decisions were made including, resolution was passed regarding the respectful separation of the seven affiliated colleges from Dhaka University; the earlier decision about admission processes for students of the affiliated colleges was revised, advancing the timeline by one year. Consequently, from the academic year 2024–2025, new students will no longer be admitted under Dhaka University. It was strongly recommended that a specialized committee formed by the Ministry of Education on December 29, 2024, manage the academic activities for the 2024–2025 academic year and beyond; The expert committee will decide on matters such as seat allocation, admission fees, and other related issues as per the demands of the students starting from the 2024–2025 academic year; The university administration will remain responsible for students currently enrolled under Dhaka University’s ongoing academic programs, ensuring that their education is not disrupted.
