Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh’s talented wicketkeeper-batter, is on the verge of making history as the first Bangladeshi cricketer to reach 100 Test appearances.
This milestone is within reach following Cricket Ireland’s decision to take part in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on November 10.
Ireland will tour Bangladesh between November and December for two Tests, three ODIs and T20Is, according to the Future Tour Programme of the ICC.
Earlier, it was reported that the Ireland side wanted to play one less Test.
Mushfiq, who made his debut in 2005, currently has 98 Tests under his belt. The 38-year-old has already retired from the other two international formats.
He is the only Bangladeshi batter to score more than 6,000 runs in Tests so far. He has 12 hundreds and 27 fifties at an average of 38.12.
Mushfiq is also among the very few cricketers to be active in Test cricket while making debuts as early as 2005.
The Bangladesh national team was in the UAE playing in the Asia Cup and waiting for their fate while filing this report.
They needed Sri Lanka to beat Afghanistan in the last fixture of Group B on Thursday.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play three ODIs and T20Is each against Afghanistan in the UAE soon after the Asia Cup.
Then they will host the West Indies for another white-ball series in October-November. The three-match ODI series will take place between October 18 and October 23, while the T20I series will commence on October 27.
Bangladesh will have a gap to host the Bangladesh Premier League in December-January before taking part in the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
According to the FTP, Bangladesh will play bilateral series with Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, the West Indies, and South Africa.
