Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam believes that the preparation of the Bangladesh national women’s cricket team for the forthcoming ICC Women’s World Cup was not up to the mark.
The Nigar Sultana Joty-led team is currently in a camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur before going to the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to begin on September 30.
But after qualifying for the World Cup as the last of eight teams, Bangladesh haven’t played any international games since their last match on April 19 in the qualifier.
The BCB tried to arrange a bilateral series but failed to do so as they didn’t find any ‘quality’ team.
A Challenge series was then arranged between Bangladesh Green, Bangladesh Red, and the Under-15 Boys team. However, both the Red and Green teams were beaten by the boys’ team.
‘Obviously it’s not ideal preparation, but we still tried, and the West Indies said no,’ Aminul told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
‘We qualified at the late end, and there was some preparation.’
However, the BCB boss said that the team seemed ready for the World Cup.
‘I saw their batting session today [Friday] at the nets, and they are ready for competitive cricket. Also our U-15 men’s and women’s teams are quite strong opponents,’ he said.
Bangladesh will begin their campaign of the World Cup on October 2 with the match against Pakistan in Colombo.
Before that, they are scheduled to play two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka on September 25 and 27, respectively.
They are likely to leave the country on September 23.
