Mahakal Theatre Fest
A Sangpala to be staged today
A traditioNal troupe from Tangail will stage a Shangpala at the Chhayanaut Auditorium today on the 7th day of the ongoing 13-day world theatre festival organised by Mahakal Natya Sampradaya marking its 30th founding anniversary. There will be no show at the other two venues of the festival at Shilpakala, as Tuesday is a weekly holiday of the National Theatre Hall of the academy. Following the tradition of the age old Shangpala, a popular performing art form Tangail and adjacent areas, Hakim Ali Gayen and his troupe will satire the contemporary socio-political milieu of the country in humerous manners.
The unique feature of traditional Shangpala is that actors with painted faces like “clowns” address the contemporary popular issues while narrating the narratives of their own.
Hakim Ali and his troupe will satirise the impact of frequent strikes and the atrocities of ministers, problems of migrating workers and many other simultaneously narrate the tales of rural life.
