After nearly a weeks scorching heat and high humidity, a little thundershower totaling seven mm on Wednesday after noon brought relief to the Dhaka city dwellers sizzling under a 35.2 Degrees Celsius maximum temperature. Elsewhere in the country, the citizens at the southwestern port city of Khulna had a big sigh of relief, enjoying 63mm of shower after a hot and humid afternoon with the 36.8 Celsius temperature, the highest in the country on Wednesday.
Met office sources though reported rains almost all over the country due to a western disturbance in the air, breaking the near deadlock in monsoon, which had remained inactive since it spread all over Bangladesh on June 11.
But the rains on Wednesday would not let the monsoon to set in fully. It would take at least five to seven days more for the rainy season to settle down, a senior meteorologist said.
However, a little rain is expected today, mostly isolated drizzles, he said adding that the heat and humidity would continue to rule.
Mymensing had 16mms of rain on Wednesday followed by 44mm at Tangail, one mm at Faridpur, Chuadanga and Ishwardi, Rajshahi 59mm, Bogra 6 mm, Rangpur 14mm, Dinajpur 51mm, Sylhet 2mm and Teknaf 1 mm, Srimangal and Hatiya had traces of rain on the day.
