The Bangladesh A team picked up its first victory in England on Saturday, chasing down the England Lions’ 319/7 to win by four wickets in the final match of the tour.
Having been hammered by the England Lions in the first two unofficial One-Day Internationals on the heels of five losses in five matches against county opposition, the tourists looked to be staring at a complete sweep in the face after the Lions amassed their third straight first innings score of well over 300.
This time, however, the Bangladeshi batsmen did not capitulate and, led by Naeem Islam’s unbeaten 121 off 100 balls, batted their way to 324/6 and to victory with an over to spare.
Roqibul Hasan scored 72 from 107 balls and contributed to a crucial 104-run third-wicket partnership with Naeem to set the stage for an explosive final 14 overs, during which the visitors smashed 155 runs.
The result ended a summer of poor showings for touring Bangladeshi cricketers, with the Under-23s and Under-19s having wrapped up their disappointing trips to Singapore and England respectively earlier this month.
