Abahani face uphill task
Abahani Limited will face group A table-toppers Pune FC of India in Bhutan’s King’s Cup today in their last match, needing to win the game by an improbable 5-0 margin in order to progress to the semi-final.The match will kick off at 3:00 pm Bangladesh standard time at the Chenglimithang Stadium in Thimphu. Pune FC already moved into the semi-final as group A champions with three successive wins in their first three group matches.
Abahani’s task became harder after Nepal’s Manang Marsyangdi Club beat local side Ugyen Academy by 5-1 to boost their goal average in Monday’s match.
MMC earned seven points from their four matches and Abahani can overtake them only with a win by a margin of five goals.
Four times Bangladesh champions Abahani, who began their campaign with a 2-1 win over Assam Electric, lost their second match to lowly Ugyan Academy of Bhutan.
