Both Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club have won their respective matches of the Club Cup Hockey Tournament at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday. Former national striker Maksudul Alam Habul struck three goals to help Abahani register a comfortable 5-0 win over Bangladesh Sporting Club while Mohammedan tasted their second successive victory, defeating Wari Club 4-1.
Abahani, after a shocking 2-2 draw with Sonali Bank in the first match, took the lead in the sixth minute with Habul hitting the board with a reverse-hit before doubling the lead three minutes later capitalising a long-ball from Moshiur Rahman Biplob.
The Sky Blues went to the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead with national defender Khorshedur Rahman converting a penalty corner three minutes from the break.
Bangladesh SC could not produce any fight against Abahani, who added two more goals in the second half.
Habul made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute while Khorshed converted another penalty corner in the 47th minute to complete the rout for Abahani.
In the day’s other match, Deen Islam, Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, Mostafizur Rahman Lal and Rana struck one goal each for Mohammedan while Nazmul Hasan pulled one goal back for Wari.
