FIFA agreed to compensate Tk 1.8 lakh to Abahani Limited midfielder Atiqur Rahman Fahad, who sustained a meniscus injury during Bangladesh national football team’s World Cup qualifying match against Jordan on March 24 this year. Fahad, who remained out of the field for the last three months, will get the benefit from the world football governing body under its club protection project.
‘We claimed the compensation for Fahad from FIFA after he sustained the injury during a FIFA authorised match,’ BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag told reporters on Wednesday.
‘FIFA calculated that Fahad needs at least three months to recover from the injury and for the last two months they had been paying Fahad Tk 3,000 per day for his treatment though they did not take the first month into consideration.’
According to FIFA, the club should bear the expenses of their players’ medical treatment and so FIFA provided the money to the club but in Bangladesh the practice is different.
Abahani didn’t bear the treatment expense of Fahad and Shohag said the federation will ask the club to redirect the fund to Fahad, who went to India for treatment with his own expense.
This is for the first time any Bangladeshi club is going to get compensation from FIFA.
