Abahani Limited threw the title race in the Bangladesh Premier League wide open when they registered 1-0 win against table-toppers Chittagong Abahani at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club completed their first phase of the league with a huge 5-0 win over Farashganj Sporting Club in the second match of the day.Veteran defender Nasiruddin Chowdhury struck for Abahani in the 77th minute that eventually proved to be
enough for the traditional Sky-Blue outfit to secure a crucial win.
Despite conceding the first defeat of the campaign, Chittagong Abahani still remained on top of the points table with 26 points but their lead over Abahani and Jamal came down to two points.
In the first match, Jamal struck all five goals in the first half with Nigerian forward Raphael Odovin scoring four goals to record the second hat-trick of the league after Saif Sporting Club’s Colombian forward Ember Valencia.
Yeasin Khan scored the other goal to secure the seventh win for his side in 11 matches.
