Dhaka Abahani Limited set another milestone in the domestic soccer history when they celebrated the Citycell Bangladesh League hatt-rick title after thrashing the Farashganj Sporting Club by 4-0 on Tuesday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The achievement will be significant for Abahani for winning the first three editions of the country’s lone professional league.
Abahani secured the feat of lifting the title of the country’s top league for second time that they got it 25 years back (1983, 84 and 85) of the then Premier Division League.
On Tuesday’s match, Abahani needed only a draw to earn one point for their hat-trick celebration but the mighty Dhaka giants did it comfortably giving Farashganj no chance to hold them.
However, Abahani made a slow start as they looked a somewhat tensed and the entire first half was almost an evenly poised combat besides some half chances to score, as both the parties were in defensive strategy.
Farashganj Sporting Club, who conceded just a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Abahani in the first leg and fielded almost their second string team, due to card problems of five premier performers, could restrict Abahani not to score for a long 59 minutes.
After the disappointing goalless first 45 minutes, Abahani made afresh in the second half and shortly took command of the match and squeezed the lowly Farashganj with sharp attacks but took 15 minutes to open the account.
Rajani painted colour to the dull affair when he broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, as his right side cross went into the net when the Farashganj defenders tried to clear the ball (1-0).
Inspired by defender Rajani’s goal, substitute Abul extended the scoreline in the 77th minute when the veteran attacking midfielder sent the ball into far corner of the post from an unmarked position inside the box off Enamul right side cross (2-0).
Enamul made it 3-0 in the 80th minute just pushing a running ball off substitute Shohag cross, the national striker, who leading as the top scorer with 19 goals before this match, scored his 20th league goal in style.
Enamul, who looked wild about to increase his tally but was giving missing trial in the first half and some occasions in the post lemon break also, celebrated his 21st goal with a spectacular header on another Shohag cross on 89th minute (4-0).
On their way to winning the championship, Abahani won 22 matches and drew only match with Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Abahani will play their last league match against the rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club, which now became only a prestige affair of the giants, as Abahani obtained 67 points from 23 matches and closest contenders Mohammedan managed 58 from 22 matches.
