Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the theatre group called Theatre are jointly going to arrange an eight-day theatre festival in commemoration of the playwright Abdullah Al Mamun on his anniversary of birth at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha. The Abdullah Al Mamun birth festival will commence on July 10 and will run till July 17.
Nine plays written by Abdullah Al Mamun will be staged by seven theatre groups and two by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Dhaka University Theatre Department during the festival.
On the inaugural day Theatre will stage the play ‘Spardha’ directed by Abdullah Al Mamun. ‘Sapath’, directed by Arif Haider, a production of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will be staged on July 11.
Theatre group Rupankar will stage the play ‘Subachan Nirbasaney’ directed by Nadedza Farzana Mousami, Palakar will stage ‘Bibisab’ directed by Aminur Rahman Mukul and Centre for Asian Theatre will stage ‘Senapati’ directed by Ahsan Reza Khan on July 12, 13 and 14 respectively.
Two plays will be staged on 15 July. They are ‘Tritiyo Purush’ by Dhaka University Theatre Department and ‘Mayik Master’ by Theatre, directed by Farhad Zaman Palash.
‘Akhon Dussomoy’ directed by Ataur Rahman of Nagarik Natya Sampraday will be staged on July 16.
On the concluding day of the festival, July 17, Theatre will stage the play ‘Meraj Fakirer Ma’ which was directed by Abdullah Al Mamun.
Apart from plays the festival will include two seminars, screening of Mamun’s films, exhibitions of his books and scripts. A documentary on Abdullah Al Mamun will also be screened in the festival.
The seminars will be held at 5:00pm on July 11 and at 11:00am on July 17.
The plays will be staged at 7:30pm daily at the National Theatre Hall. The screening will be shown at 5:00pm at the Studio Theatre and the exhibitions will take place on the lobby of the National Theatre Hall.
