Seasoned folk singer and lyricist Abdur Rahman Bayati has been hospitalised on Sunday after suffering from old age complications.
He has been admitted to the hospital with serious neurological and urological problems. ‘Abdur Rahman is suffering from multi-organ disorder. Moreover, he has already undergone two mild brain strokes in past nine years,’ duty doctor Rowshne Jahan of the hospital told New Age.
His health condition deteriorated recently as the family could not continue with the physiotherapy after he had suffered a brain stroke in 2003. After Eid-ul-Azha, the family was compelled to stall his physiotherapy due to financial constraints.
‘However, when we get all the reports, we can be sure of whether he has other problems or not.’ Dr Jahan added, ‘But he is definitely in a critical condition.’
Alam Rahman, son of Abdur Rahman, who is looking after his father at the hospital, told New Age, ‘My father’s condition is not good. We are afraid, his condition is deteriorating. He can’t even take food properly. Doctors say that if he is taken abroad for a better treatment, he might recover.’
