Rowdy villagers forcibly snatched away an accused from police custody after his arrest at Pachpukuria village in Manohorgonj upazila of the district on Friday evening.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Jahirul Islam of Monohorgonj Police Station said a team of police went to the village to arrest one Shahjahan Kabiraj,50, resident of the village, along with an arrest warrant in the evening. At one stage, followers of Shahjahan snatched him away from police by attacking them (police) while they were on the way to thana.
After being on the loose, handcuffed Shahjahan ran way.
Two police personnel—sub-inspector Abu Hanif and constable Liakat Hossain of the thana—were also injured in the attack.
They were admitted to Laksam Upazila Health Complex.
Police started conducting a drive to arrest the accused again, added the OC.
