The authorities on Sunday removed the additional security personnel deployed around the residence of opposition leader Khaleda Zia and from in front of BNP headquarters at Naya Paltan. Talking to The Independent, Khandaker Lutful Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the withdrawal of police. But he declined to say about other security men who were stationed there.
The Deputy Commissioner said the decision to withdraw the police was given by higher authorities.
The measures have allowed free entrance of party leaders and activists into the residence of opposition leader and party central office, sources said.
BNP sources, however, said a large number of police in plainclothes were still seen in those places. The additional security forces were deployed following the arrest of BNP leaders on Friday night.
