The admission tests for 2021-2022 academic year are going to start from July 30 this year under the cluster system at 22 public universities. The fee for the admission tests also increased from Tk 1,200 to Tk 1,500.
The decisions were taken on Monday night at a virtual meeting of vice-chancellors of these universities, said Jagannath University vice-chancellor Md Imdadul Hoque, also joint head of cluster-based admission committee.
The University Grants Commission of Bangladesh member professor Muhammed Alamgir told New Age on Tuesday that he did not know about these decisions yet.
‘When we would know about this we would make comment on that,’ he added.
Currently, 22 universities are under the general, science and technology cluster, three are under engineering and seven are under agricultural clusters.
Earlier, the Association of Universities of Bangladesh on April 8 decided to take the admission test for the 22 universities on three dates – September 3, September 10 and September 17 – for science, humanities and business studies groups.
Professor Md Imdadul Hoque told New Age on Tuesday that a decision was taken that the unified admission tests would be held on three dates – July 30, August 13 and August 20 – for science, humanities and business studies groups.
Replying to a question he said that as prices of everything went up the fees for admission test were increased. ‘We need to increase fees for bearing our expenses,’ he said, adding, ‘UGC doesn’t give us any money.’
Earlier, on April 7 at a meeting, the UGC urged the universities not to increase admission fees.
Another participant from the Monday meeting said that the candidates must attain minimum 30 marks out of 100 to pass the tests and one mark would be deducted against every four incorrect answers.
The candidates from science group must have minimum GPA 7 (excluding fourth subject) in secondary and higher secondary examinations, candidates from business studies group must have minimum GPA 6.5 (excluding fourth subject) in secondary and higher secondary examinations and candidates from humanities group must have minimum GPA 6 (excluding fourth subject) in secondary and higher secondary examinations to take the test, he added.
