The Asian Football Confederation on Wednesday requested Bangladesh Football Federation to host the Group A AFC Under-19 Championship qualifying round matches after Sri Lanka declined to host the event. The Group A games of the AFC Under-19 Championship were originally scheduled to be held in Colombo from September 28 to October 8. Bangladesh have been drawn with Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bhutan in Group-A.
Sri Lanka had requested the AFC to defer the schedule due to some internal problems or look for new hosts.
‘After Sri Lanka expressed its inability to host the event, AFC asked the other participating countries to host it’, BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag told reporters on Wednesday.
‘AFC told to us let them know a decision by July 8.’
