After her husband, the woman who sustained severe burn injuries as the couple was set on fire in Lalpur upazila early Saturday, died at a Rajshahi hospital early Sunday.
Sufia Begum, wife of Habibur Rahman of Kujipukur village in the upazila, succumbed to her injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Habibur Rahman was killed and his wife suffered burn injuries as they were set ablaze allegedly by Sufia’s brothers in the early hours of Saturday over a land dispute.
Local people said Sufia had been at loggerheads with her brothers Ibrahim and Akkas over the share of their paternal property.
As a sequel to the conflict, Ibrahim and Akkas, aided by their associates, stormed into the house of Habibur around 1:30am on Saturday and set the couple on fire after pouring petrol on their bodies, leaving Habibur dead on the spot and Sufia injured.
