Joseph Afusi is likely to leave his post as coach of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited next season and articulated his desire of taking charge at a Vietnamese club.
Nigerian coach Afusi stated that a Vietnamese club offered him a two-year
contract and he decided to accept their offer.Afusi will leave Dhaka for London probably on Sunday to start the process of his visa for Vietnam.
Afusi, who worked for Sheikh Jamal for the first time as a full-time coach this season, served as a player-cum-coach in the season of 2011-12.
Afusi inspired Jamal to the final of the Federation Cup and Independence Cup this season but failed in the final hurdle while he was also unable to land the title of the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League despite going close.
Afusi said to reporters on Tuesday that Sheikh Jamal did not display any interest about renewing the contract.
‘I am a professional coach. I do not have time to sit here and wait for them. I might be leaving the club,’ said the Nigerian coach.
Anwarul Karim Helal, manager of Sheikh Jamal said that they were positive about retaining the services of the Nigerian coach for next season.
‘We are still hopeful of keeping him. We will know the final decision by today. He demanded more wages than last season and also an advance payment of four months,’ said Helal on Tuesday.
Afusi rejected the claim of Helal and informed that he will stay only if he received the same wages he got in the previous season from the club and a three-month advance payment as he wanted the assurance from the club.
