Shahjahan elected sr VP, Mizanur VP
Ahasanul Islam was elected president of the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Saturday.
Mohammad Shahjahan was elected senior vice-president and
Mizanur Rahman Khan vice-president of the bourse.
DSE election commissioner Abul Hashem, a professor at Dhaka University, announced the result after the first meeting of the new board of directors of the bourse.
DSE director Ahmed Rashid Lali, also immediate past senior-vice president, walked out of the board meeting alleging that the election was not fair.
The newly-elected president, Ahasanul Islam, however, denied any walkout incident.
‘I am not aware of any such incident. As a new president of the DSE I will work for the betterment of the capital market with my capacity. We have demutualisation ahead and lots of work needed to be done in a very short time,’ he said.
‘I walked out of the board meeting as a section of directors held a secret meeting in a city restaurant last night to fix the election result without my knowledge,’ Ahmed Rashid Lali told reporters.
‘I told the media earlier that I would not compete in the elections. But why did they hold a meeting without informing me?’ he said.
DSE election commissioner Abul Hashem also denied replying to any question after the announcement of the result.
The tenure of the board will be only five months as the stock exchange has to form new board within the next five months to implement the demutualisation act.
The board meeting was held after the annual general meeting of the bourse.
On Monday, four new directors — Sharif Anowar Hossain of Sahidullah Securities, Azizul Hoque of B & B Enterprise, Shahed Abdul Khaleque of Shahed Securities and Khugesta Nur-E-Naharin of Modern Securities — of the bourse got elected to replace DSE president Rakibur Rahman, Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, Khwaja Ghulam Rasul and Sharif Ataur Rahman.
