An airhostess of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday while trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth Tk 2.5 crore.
Airport officials said Kamrun Nahar Tutul, 32, a cabin crew of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, was scheduled to board a London-bound plane of the national flag career. The aircraft was scheduled to fly for London via Dubai at about 6:00 am yesterday.
As the airhostess was entering the airport through gate No-6 at about 3:15 am, scanner operator detected foreign currency in her luggage. Later, a female constable searched her and also found foreign currency tied to her body. Customs officials recovered foreign currency worth Tk 50 lakh from the luggage and about Tk 2 crore from the body of the airhostess.
The airport authorities handed her to the Airport thana police where a case was filed.
