Former advisor to the caretaker government and economist Akbar Ali Khan was buried at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ Cemetery in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Friday afternoon. He was buried around 3:30pm today (September 9, 2022).
His namaz-e-janaza was held at Azad Mosque in Dhaka’s Gulshan after Juma prayers.
Akbar Ali Khan was given guard of honour after the janaza from Dhaka district administration. He was later taken to Mirpur martyred intellectuals’ graveyard for burial.
Earlier in the day, his body was taken to his Dhaka residence from the Evercare Hospital. His relatives, near and dear ones, and eminent citizens paid last tributes to him.
Akbar Ali, an economist, historian and writer, breathed his last yesterday, leaving behind the gift of his wisdom on issues ranging from economics to literature. He was 78.
He fell ill and was taken to the Evercare Hospital at 10:40pm. He had passed away before he arrived at the hospital, said Dr Arif Mahmud, deputy director of Evercare Hospital.
Akbar held various positions in bureaucracy. He was former cabinet secretary, former finance secretary, and also headed the National Board of Revenue.
