A hostile spell of pace bowling from UCB-BCB XI seamer Al-Amin Hossain and a mesmerising all-round performance by Prime Bank’s Sakib al Hasan inspired their sides to victories at the Amber Victory Day Twenty20 Cup in Sylhet on Thursday. Al-Amin scalped 5-17 in four overs – with all of his five wickets coming in one over – as the UCB-BCB XI registered a two-wicket win over Abahani Limited, while ace all-rounder Sakib featured with both bat and ball as Prime Bank recorded a convincing 159–run win against Mohammedan Sporting Club.
In a welcome return to form, Anamul Haque contributed heavily to Prime Bank’s win, scoring the first century of the tournament.
Abahani Limited v UCB-BCB XI
In the first game of the day, Abahani, on 141-5 after 19 overs, were looking to go past the 150-mark when Al Amin came on to bowl the final over of the innings.
However, Abahani finished 143 all out due to a remarkable over by Al Amin, who dismissed five batsmen in the final over.
Mehedi Maruf was the first to go in the 20th over as he was caught by Arafat Sunny. After the second delivery went for two runs, Al Amin took four wickets in the four remaining balls to restrict Abahani to less than 150.
Nazmul Hossain, Sohrawardi Shuvo, Nayeem Islam and Nabil Samad all faced the music as Al Amin ended with brilliant figures of 5-17 in four overs, including a maiden. His hat-trick arrived when he dismissed Nayeem off the penultimate delivery.
