Criticising Awami League and BNP, Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad on Sunday said that both ruling and opposition parties are busy in the politics of
vengeance, making the country’s situation volatile.
“I never did the politics of vengeance and I will never do it. The two big political parties are busy in confrontational politics, making the country’s situation vulnerable. JP is the only option to the people,” he said.
Ershad came up with the remarks while inaugurating the academic building of the Mahiganj college in Rangpur.
“The polarization process in the country has begun due to the failure of the AL and BNP to run the country. BNP says that it will not go to elections without caretaker government (CG) system while AL is not ready to restore CG system. It has created confrontation between them. Election has become uncertain for this,” JP chief said.
Referring to city corporation elections, he said, “The defeat of AL backed candidates in the five city corporation polls prove that people have turned away from the grand alliance government.”
Addressing another rally at the Mominpur high school field in Rangpur in the afternoon, he said that the JP would take part in the general elections alone and was looking for 300 candidates. Expressing gratitude to the people of Rangpur, Ershad, the former president, said, “I have fought for truth throughout my life. I had to go to jail. The people of Rangpur have freed me from jail by their love. I am indebted to them. Now it’s time to go to power.”
He also said, “People don’t like AL and BNP anymore as they are fed up with their criminalisations. So they want to select JP as an alternative platform”.
He also said that he would leave the grand alliance when the time is right.
Referring various development activities in his tenure, Ershad said, “AL and BNP could not create any history of development over the last 23 years. If we see the history of last 42 year, people will find development in my time.”
He also urged the students to be educated with modern education and perseverant to develop the country. “There is no alternative to honest leadership for the formation of a corruption free country,” he observed.
