Police arrested a local Awami League leader in Saltha upazila on Friday on charge of embazzling over Tk 30 lakh from people in the name trade and giving them various facilities. The arrested was identified as M Sirajul Islam alias Siraj, former general secretary of Ramkantapur union unit of the ruling party and son of late Abul Hasem Mollah of Bahirdia village. in the upazila. The law enforcers arrested Siraj from his residence in a case filed in connection with the swindle. Locals said Siraj conned several people out of over Tk 30 lakh in the name trade and giving them various facilities using the names of late President Zillur Rahman and deputy leader of the House and local MP Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury. Officer-in-charge of Saltha Police Station M Afsar Uddin said they arrested Siraj as per a court order as he was accused in a case.
