Top leaders of the ruling Awami League will start organisational tour across the country after the end of the first session of the 10th parliament later this month in a bid to rejuvenate the party rank and file for the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections. “Workers’ meetings will be held in every Upazila to reinforce the party at the grassroots level ahead of the upcoming Upazila Parishad polls,” said Awami League joint general secretary Mahmub-ul-Alam Hanif.
He made the comment when asked by The Independent about the outcome of the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting that was held at the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Gonobhaban last night.
On measures against attacks on minority communities, the AL lawmaker said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take stern action against those who were involved in the attacks on the minorities.”
Hanif said party leaders and activists have been asked to stand beside the minorities and forge resistance against BNP-Jamaat attacks on them.
Besides, the premier herself will visit the places where attacks on minorities were taken place, Hanif said.
Among others, Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, presidium members Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Satish Chandra Roy, its joint general secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Dipu Moni were also present at the meeting.
