BCB Election
All objections rejected
The Bangladesh Cricket Board election commission announced the final list of councillors on Monday, as none of the objections raised against the councillorships were accepted.
There were as many as 16 objection letters served by the District and Divisional Association and several clubs regarding the nominations of councillors from their own organisations.
‘We had gone through every case and found there were no flaws in the process maintained for receiving councillorship from their respective organisations,’ chief election commissioner Abdur Rahman told reporters on Monday.
‘The election process is maintained according to the constitution, and there was no external influence whatsoever,’ said Rahman.
The election commission also paid no heed to the demand made by Saber Hossian Chowdhury that the election should either be cancelled or postponed unless a written copy of the Supreme Court ruling is obtained.
Saber was not available to give his reaction to the election commission’s decision, but sources confirmed that
he is ready to decide whether he will still contest in the election or not.
BCB ad-hoc member Enayet Hossain, who is also in BCB president Nazmul Hasan’s panel, said that he was surprised by Saber’s criticisms of the election process.
‘I have been contesting elections for several years, and the BCB always asked for the names of the councillors,’ Enayet said, referring to Saber’s claim that doing so was unconstitutional.
‘The BCB later distributed the names they obtained to the NSC to complete the election process, and that was the case even on this occasion,’ he said.
