Franco Bangladesh Association of Scholars and Trainees organised a programme that featured a discussion session and a cultural show at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka on Friday evening to celebrate the new Bangla Year 1421.
Babou Kamichetty, deputy head of mission, French Embassy in Bangladesh; Dr. Akramullah Sikder and Zilhurain Jaigirdarm, president and secretary general of FBAST respectively, and Olivier Litvine, director of Alliance Française de Dhaka, were present at the discussion session.
Conveying Bangla New Year’s greetings to the audience, Olivier Litvine, in his speech, appreciated the role of FBAST for facilitating the exchange of expertise by organising international seminars on current issues for the interest of the people of the county.
The cultural show started with a dance recital by Mehjabin Binte Hossen and Farhana Akter Tanjum.
Thereafter singer Chandan Chowdhury rendered timeless songs including Tumi Nirmolo Koro, Aguner Poroshmoni , Tora Sob Joyodhoni Kor, and others.
Taslima Chumki presented some popular numbers like Meghera Dpl Bedhe Jay Kon Deshe, Moiuro Konthi Ratero Nile, Tomare Legeche Ato Je Bhalo, which earned her a huge round of applause from the audience.
Anima Mukti presented some melodious folk songs including Amar Golar Haar Khule Ne, Amay Ato Raite Keno Daak Dili and Oki Garial Bhai, followed by Tin Pagoler Holo Mela Node Eshe and O Padma Nadire by singer Ajit Kumar.
The evening’s programme came to an end with a lively duet dance performance by Afrin Sultana Nipu and Shemonti Ahmed choreographed with the famous Tagore song Rangiye Diye Jao playing in the backdrop.
The musical performances were ably supported by Aziz on tabla, Answar Ali on flute and Ajit Kumar on dotara.
