Twenty-five cricketers have been selected to attend the Bangladesh A Team skill camp which will start from Sunday.
All-rounder Alok Kapali was the notable omission from the list and when asked, chief selector Akram Khan said: “What he [Kapali] told me over telephone was that he was not interested to play for the A team. So you can understand there is no point in selecting such a player who thinks like that.”
However, when contacted, Kapali said, “To tell the truth I am not happy with the treatment I have been receiving. I was chosen for one match [the third ODI against Australia earlier this year], then discarded. I was very disappointed at not being picked for the Zimbabwe one-dayers.
“When I talked to Akram bhai regarding my position, I wanted to know whether the selectors had any plans for me. If they did, I said I wanted to be in the A team.
“As a senior player, I just wanted to know about my weaknesses. I repeatedly informed him that I am willing to be with them. I also apologised to him in case I hurt him, but he abruptly hung up the phone,” he explained.
The selected cricketers have been asked to report to the camp’s head coach Mizanur Rahman at 1.30pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The camp concludes on August 25.
The selected cricketers are Nazimuddin, Shamsur Rahman, Nasiruddin Faruque, Naeem Islam, Rokibul Hassan, Nadif Chowdhury, Mohammad Mithun, Syed Rasel, Farhad Hossain, Rony Talukder, Jahurul Islam, Dhiman Ghosh, Mehrab Hossain, Sahagir Hossain, Nur Hossain, Saqlain Sajib, Mohammad Elias, Tapash Baishya, Shuvashish Roy, Farhad Reza, Dollar Mahmud, Tarek Aziz, Shahadat Hossain, Mahbubul Alam and Nazmul Hossain.
