The Professional Golf Tour of India starts its new season with the American Express Bangladesh Open starting at the Kurmitola Golf Club on January 26. This was revealed at a press briefing on Sunday.
The City Bank, under the banner of American Express, is hosting the Tk 30 lakh tournament in association with the Bangladesh Golf Federation and the KGC for the third year in a row.
The event will feature several top golfers from India and Bangladesh. The Bangladesh contingent will be led by the defending champion of this tournament, Siddikur Rahman.
Siddik used this tournament as a platform to turn pro in 2007, and won the tournament comfortably in 2010 which helped him become seventh on the 2010 Asian Tour Order of Merit.
He is optimistic about performing well this year as well. The reigning champion is confident that the other 29 professional golfers of Bangladesh, who are taking part in this event, will also do well.
Shakhawat Hossain, who qualified for the Asian Tour this year, will also participate in the tournament along with Jamal Mollah and Mohammad Sayum.
Siddik along with Mahmood Sattar, managing director of the City Bank, Brig Gen Salim Akhter (retd), member development of BGF, Col SM Shawkat Ali (retd), joint secretary of BGF and chief executive officer of KGC, and Uttam S Mundy, director of PGTI, were present at the press briefing.
