Unidentified miscreants attacked and indiscriminately stabbed an organiser of Ganojagaran Mancha at Paribagh area in the city early Saturday while he was returning home at around 12:15am.
Moniruzzaman Akash, a central committee member of cultural organisation Udichi, told The Independent, “Arif Noor, also a member of Udichi central committee, is not out of danger yet, as a physicians who administered treatment to Arif Noor said he (Arif Noor) had to be given 13 to 15 stitches in his head.
“A group of five gangsters equipped with lethal weapons intercepted me near Paribagh over bridge while I was returning home from one of my friend’s house in the area and started physically assaulting me, one of them pushed me, at the same time, another punched me from back,” Arif Noor Noor told journalists at DMCH where he is undergoing treatment.
“As they swooped on me, sensing danger, I started running for life, but the attackers got hold my clothe and stabbed me indiscriminately in the head, I instantly countered the attack and punched a man standing in front of me to make my way, they encircled me and started hitting my head with sharp weapons,” Noor said adding that hearing my screams, people from a nearby CNG filling station rushed to the scene and the attackers fled boarding a microbus.
Local people immediately rushed him to the Health and Hope Hospital on Green Road and later shifted to the DMCH. The officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police station Mohammad Sirazul Islam, told The Independent, “Arif Noor filed a case with Shahbagh police station against five unidentified miscreants on Saturday night and we have already lunched drive to nab the attackers.”
