The Supreme Court on Monday directed college authorities across the country, except Notre Dame College, to carry out the admission process for HSC students, prompting the education board to publish the admission results on the basis of the candidates’ SSC marks. Dhaka Board’s controller of examinations SM Wahiduzzaman said that they have published a list of admission seekers after the Supreme Court removed all legal hurdles for starting admissions.
He said the board has published a list of colleges that have gone for online admissions. However, the online process would start only after the colleges publish the list of admission seekers on their notice boards, he added.
Earlier, the apex court’s Appellate Division had modified the High Court order that stayed the operation of the HSC admission policy for the current session without test as introduced by the education ministry.
The modified order will be applicable for Notre Dame College, the apex court said.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain also asked the HC to dispose of a rule issued in this regard earlier within four weeks.
Later, deputy attorney general Ekramul Haque Tutul told reporters that college authorities across the country, except Notre Dame College, can admit students to class XI without holding any admission test, on the basis of their SSC marks.Barrister Tamim Hossain Shawon, counsel for Notre Dame college, told reporters that the institute’s authorities have already completed admission process after holding examinations in the meantime.
The education ministry had issued a guideline on May 16, stating that admission to HSC will be done on the basis of GPA of SSC results without holding any test.
The Notre Dame College had filed a writ petition in the High Court On May 30, challenging the legality of the education ministry’s guideline.On June 2, the court had stayed the guideline for six months.
The court had also issued a rule, asking the government why the education ministry’s guideline should not be declared illegal.
Following this, the government had filed an appeal in the apex court for vacating the HC order.But, the apex court did not vacate a stay order of the High Court regarding admission tests at Notre Dame College.Attorney general Mahbubey Alam appeared for the state while Dr M Zahir appeared for the Notre Dame College.
