Workers vandalised an apparel factory at Shyampur in the capital on Friday demanding wages in the new wage structure.
Witnesses and the police said some workers of the Imam Dying and Printing Industry Limited saw the general manager to discuss their wages in the new structure.
The general manager, Kamrul Hasan, and other officials entered in into altercation with the workers and beat up a worker named Al Amin, the workers said.
Other workers then went to the general manager’s room and rescued their fellow. They also confined the officials. The workers also vandalised the factory building.
They shouted slogans and demanded punishment of the officials responsible for the assault of Al-Amin. The injured was sent to a nearby hospital.
The police later rescued the factory officials.
The Kadamtoli police officer-in-charge, Ayubur Rahman, said the
incident began with some officials beating up a worker. He said that authorities had closed the factory for two days and additional policemen had been deployed.
No case was filed in this regard.
