The Bangladesh Football Federation is unlikely to grant Arambagh Krira Sangstha’s request to keep the club in the top flight as most of the members of the BFF executive committee are against such a move.
Arambagh, who were relegated last season, appealed to the
BFF to consider preserving their top flight status. The BFF had initially planned to retain Arambagh in the league as part of its plan to ensure at least 30
matches for all professional sides this season. However, most of the members are now opposing the idea, it was learnt.
The BFF members are in favour of promoting three to four teams from the second-tier Championship League instead of giving Arambagh any lifeline this season.
The members were instructed to give their opinions by Thursday, which will be followed by an emergency meeting on July 22 to discuss a number of issues.
The possible introduction of a third-tier football league is also on the agenda of the meeting.
