Bangladesh Army claimed the men’s kabaddi gold for the very first time after overcoming holders Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) by 30-22 in the final of the eighth
Bangladesh Games at the Kabaddi Stadium on Saturday.
Bangladesh Army were bestowed with the final ticket by the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation on the basis of the referee’s report following an unwanted brawl between Bangladesh Police and Army in the semifinal.
Army dominated the game until the last minute and it was their first-ever achievement in kabaddi since they started participating in the sport from 1999.
Bangladesh Army, including seven national team players, lead the game from the beginning with a strong defence while BGB on the other hand, led by the world’s former best raider Ziaur Rahman, failed in their pursuit of controlling the match.
‘Our preparation was good and the players toiled hard to win the gold,’ said Army coach Sajed Razzak.
‘(Bangladesh) Army played better than us today (Saturday) while our players were demoralized after they were deprived of the first point in the beginning,’ said Md. Julhash, the BGB coach.
Meanwhile, following two unsavoury incidents in the kabaddi court in recent times, enough security measures were taken and only the people approved by the officials were allowed to go inside the stadium.
