Vast green fields where thousands of cattle graze have been disappearing because of selfish encroachments by humans. Flora and fauna are also perishing in the same way like grazing fields.
These unfortunate disappearances have been grieved by artist Abul Hussain Dhali Tomal, who has revealed his earnestness to preserve natural habitats in two series of his print artworks at a 25-day exhibition at the Dhaka Art Center in Dhanmondi.
Tomal has portrayed the splendour of grazing fields and cattle, mainly goats in 25 artworks in the series titled Grazing Grounds. In another series titled Nature comprising five prints, he depicted forests and birds. As a diverse printmaking artist, Tomal has used various techniques like etching and relief process.
In one of the black and white artworks of the Grazing Grounds, Tomal depicted few goats roaming around on a vast field. In another artwork of the same series, the artist illustrated a flock of white and brown goats relaxing on a pasturing ground.
‘I have highlighted mainly goats for now but later on I plan to include other animals that graze on meadows,’ informed Tomal. He has used etching, a process of printmaking using strong acid on a metal surface, for those artworks.
Trees getting shaken by a devastating storm have been depicted in an artwork of Nature series using relief process, a print-making technique using dices on paper. Tomal has portrayed three birds pecking grains from the ground in black ink in another artwork of the Nature series.
The exhibition is a part of Kibria Printmaking Studio Gallery’s project objective to popularise print-making in the country. Inaugurated on May 20, the exhibition will remain open for all everyday from 3:00pm to 8:00pm till June 15.
