Seasoned artist Raisul Islam Asad has returned to the silver screen after a three year hiatus. Recently, he has completed shooting for a role in Gazi Rakayet’s feature film Mrittika Maya.
Asad’s last appearance on silver screen was in Kolkata-based director Goutam Ghosh’s acclaimed film Moner Manush (2010), where Asad enacted the significant role of Siraj Sai.Mrittika Maya is a film about the lives of potters. ‘The film shows potters working with clay. Sorrows, joys and other nuances of their lives are the subject of the film, I am playing the character of a head potter, who is also the head of the family’, Asad told New Age.
Asad has also lent his voice for a song in the film. The song ‘Goalla dohar mati’ is a recurrent mood-setter in the film and has been sung in bare voice, without accompaniment of other musical instruments.
This is not the first time that this versatile artiste has sung in a film. His first playback was for the film Ghuddi, followed by Ayna Bibir Pala.
‘I am not a professional singer. But I like singing when the film and its director want me to sing’, the artiste said.
‘I am not a regular face on the silver screen, but I like to work when the storyline attracts me’, added Asad, who has played pivotal roles in critically acclaimed films like Padma Nadir Majhi, Nodir Naam Madhumoti, Kittonkhola, Laalsalu, Lalon, Durratta, Moner Manush and many others.
Asad has acted alongside Mamunur Rashid, Aparna, Titas Zia, Sharmee Mala and Pijush Bandhopadhyay in Mrittika Maya, which is being produced by government grants. It is expected to be released as soon as its post-production work is complete.
