National cricket captain Mohammad Ashraful signed for his third club in as many years when the country’s premier batsman joined Premier League newcomers Gazi Tank yesterday.
The three-day cricketers’ transfers for the Premier and First Division cricket leagues concluded with Gazi Tank, expectedly, roping in a number of big shots.
The other national pool cricketers for the promotees are all-rounder Nayeem Islam, left-arm spinner Enamul Haque Jr and opening batsman Imrul Kayes.
Gazi Tank also signed former national opener Nafees Iqbal, rookie fast bowler Rubel Hossain who has got his first national call for the ongoing ODI tri-series in Dhaka, and batsman Wasel Uddin.
Ashraful, who played for Mohammedan last year and another newcomers Sonargaon in the season before that, said he did not leave Mohammedan because of pressure.
“Yes, there is pressure when play for big teams but I never felt pressure while playing for Mohammedan. I was a failure in the last year’s league,” Ashraful told reporters.
“We have a solid team and every place is taken care of. We hope to test the other big names for the championship,” he added.
Enamul, who left Victoria, said he missed out most of last year’s competition but was eager to prove himself. “I’ll try my best to give hundred percent,” said Enamul.
Former national captain and wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud stayed at Surjo Torun while left-arm national pacer Syed Rasel, who is expected to be sidelined for injury for long, joined CCS from Kalabagan.
A total of 133 players took part in the transfers including 33 on the final day. For the first division, 244 players were part of the transfer.
