Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin consolidated his top position of ICC player rankings for the all-rounders with his century and seven-wicket
haul in Antigua Test and widened the gap with Bangladesh’s Sakib al Hasan, said an ICC press release on Tuesday.
Ashwin’s knock of 113 and 7-83 against West Indies increased his ranking point to 427, highest in his career, from and increased the gap with Sakib, who last played a Test match in July 2015, by 43 points.
Ashwin, only the third Indian to be top-ranked among all-rounders after Vinoo Mankad and Kapil Dev also surged to the top of ICC rankings for Test bowlers with a total of 876 points.
Ashwin replaced Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who had grabbed the number-one ranking for bowlers only last week with a 10-wicket haul in the opening Test against England at Lord’s.
Yasir, who could take only one wicket in the second Test at Old Trafford, dropped to fifth place below James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Dale Steyn.
