Unknown assailants killed an eight-year-old boy drowning him in a water tank and slit his father’s throat in an attempt to kill him at Gendaria in the capital on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Dipto Das Shuvo, 8, and his father Bivuti Ranjan Das, 45, residents of 34 KB Road at Faridabad.
Critically injured Ranjan Das was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Local people said they found injured Ranjan with his throat slit in his residence and Shuvo’s body in a water tank at around 1:30pm.
Before falling unconscious, Bivuti Das told the police that miscreants had tried to kill him by slitting his throat.
‘As my son witnessed the incident, they took him to the bathroom and killed him by drowning him in a water tank,’ he said.
The police said that the miscreants had also snatched Tk 35,000 from him. Shuvo was a student of Class V of Gendaria High School.
Bivuti’s wife Shiuli Rani Das, a school teacher, told reporters that he had gone to the school after dropping Shuvo at his school in the morning.
She said that Bivuti had no enmity with anybody.
Gendaria police officer-in-charge Faruk Hossain told newsmen that extortionists might have tried to kill Bhivuti.
‘The reasons behind the incident would be known once Bivuti comes to his senses,’ he said.
The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination.
