Bangladesh shuttler Ayman Ibn Zaman failed to progress to the last eight of the men’s badminton singles event at the 2nd Asian Youth Games as he lost to Japan’s Koga Minoru in the last 16.
Minoru defeated Zaman by straight 21-08, 21-03 sets on Sunday in Nanjing, China, on the third day of the Games. Zaman had earlier brushed aside the challenge of Al Mandalawai Qasim of Iraq in the first round.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh shooter Sharmin Akter finished in 27th place among 40 participants in the 10 metre air rifle event. BKSP’s Sharmin recorded a score of 396 points.
Another Bangladeshi shooter, Sharmin Akter of Savar Cantonment Shooting Club, ended up in 32nd position after secring 393.2 points.
In basketball, Bangladesh were pipped by a narrow 16-15 points in a competitive game against Iran.
A total of 2,641 athletes from 45 countries are taking part in 118 events of 16 disciplines in the second edition of the Asian Youth Games.
