Former Islami Oikya Jote leader Shaikhul Hadith Allama Azizul Haque died of old age complications at his Azimpur residence in the city on Wednesday. He was 94.
Azizul Haque, chairman of the undivided Islami Oikya Jote and amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, is survived by wife, seven daughters and five sons.
President Zillur Rahman and prime minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages expressed their grief at the death of the noted cleric and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia also expressed shock at his death.
