The Bangladesh Association of Contact Centers and Outsourcing (Bacco) hosted the first industry-wide Business Process Outsourcing Summit and Job Fair in Chattogram on Thursday with the aim of creating new job opportunities for young people. The summit took place in the auditorium of the Chattogram Shilpakala Academy.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzaman chaired the event, saying, “In this age of technological advancement, there is no alternative to acquiring skills.” Educated youth must adapt to evolving technology to thrive.
He added: Primary and secondary jobs are disappearing around the world due to rapid technological advances. Therefore, the youngsters should prepare themselves with communication and negotiation skills as well as appropriate knowledge.
He also stressed the importance of learning foreign languages, which can help freelancers become more efficient by gaining insight into different aspects of the foreign culture.
Towhid Hossain, general secretary of Bacco, said, “The organisation aims to create one lakh jobs in the BPO sector by 2025. Currently, more than 70,000 people are working in this sector. This year, at least 1,000 jobs will be created for the young generation through the job fairs at divisional BPO summits.”
Md Mizanur Rahman, director of ICT Division (Finance and Administration); Towhid Hossain, general secretary of Bacco; Fazrul Hoque, director of Bacco; Ahmedul Islam Babu, director of Bacco; Mohammad Kausar Uddin, president of Technology Media Guild Bangladesh; and Imdadul Hoque, executive member of ICT Forum Bangladesh, among others, attended the event.
Leading BPO companies in the country also collected the CVs of interested job seekers at the event.
For the first time, a Business Process Outsourcing Summit was organized in the divisional cities with the aim of developing a qualified workforce in the BPO industry and exploiting the potential of IT-based industries.
