Moviana Film Society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has jointly organised a programme to mark noted filmmaker Badal Rahman’s
third death anniversary today.
Badal Rahman (1949-1980) was the director of the first full-length feature film for children in Bangladesh, Emil-er Goenda Bahini (1980). Till his demise, he was the president of the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh.
The commemorative programme featuring discussion session and documentary screening will be held at the seminar room of the academy in the afternoon.
A tribute is also being paid to another acclaimed, contemporary filmmaker, late Tareque Masud through analysis of his works. A speech titled ‘Tareque Masud-er Bhabna: Matir Moyna ebong Runway Chalachitrer bislession’ (Thought of Tareque Masud: analysis of Matir Moyna and Runway) will be delivered by Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, film researcher and assistant professor of Journalism and Mass Communication department of Dhaka University.
The programme will be attended by noted filmmaker Syed Salauddin Zaki, film researcher Dr. Sajedul Awal, professor Zakir Hossain Raju and photographer Munira Morshed Munni among others and presided over by director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky.
Two documentaries will be screened at the programme including Saiful Islam Journal’s Pothikrit(pioneer) featuring life and contribution of Badal Rahman and Prasun Rahman’s Phera, a documentary on Tareque Masud’s biography.
