Ten Bangladeshis died from suffocation in a fire that broke out in their house in Bahrain early Sunday morning, a Bangladesh embassy official told New Age.
The incident took place in the house of 11 Bangladeshis at East Riffa, about 20 kilometres south off the Bahrain capital of Manama. One of them managed to survive.
Local police and fire service assumed that the fire had originated from an electric short circuit, the first secretary at the Bangladesh embassy, Muhammad Ibrahim, told New Age over telephone.
‘It is not that the fire has burnt the victims. The police believe that they died from suffocation,’ he said.
The police would, however, come up with details after investigation, he said.
Asked about the identity of the victims, Ibrahim said that they were not ready to disclose the names on Sunday afternoon. ‘We have some names. But we need to reconfirm the names through finger identification with the immigration department before making them public,’ he added.
