UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will send a UN delegation in May to help the bickering political parties reach an understanding and thus resolve the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh. “The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka in the second week of May as per the personal desire of the UN Secretary General,” BNP chairperson’s adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed told reporters after a meeting between the BNP chairperson and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh and UNDP Resident Representative Neal Walker. The nearly 45-minute meeting that began around 8:30pm held at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on Tuesday night. UNDP country Director Pauline Tamesis accompanied Walker at the meeting. Briefing the journalists after the meeting, Sabihuddin said Walker met the BNP chief to apprise her about the arrival of the UN delegation. Earlier on Sunday, US Ambassador Dan W Mozena called on the BNP chief and urged the government and the opposition to sit for a constructive dialogue to find out a solution to the ongoing political crisis. On April 17, envoys from 10 Arab countries met Khaleda Zia and discussed the country’s ongoing political impasse and the next general election.
